Community Visiting Scheme
The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government to enhance the lives of older people living in Residential Aged Care Facilities.
Wimmera Volunteers is the agency responsible for the delivery of this service within the Wimmera Region. The region covers from Hopetoun to Stawell and Kaniva to Horsham. There are twenty four facilities in this region. Wimmera Volunteers are funded to provide twenty eight volunteer visitors throughout the region.
The aim of the community visiting scheme is to provide a one on one visitor to a resident of a Residential Aged Care Facilities who have very limited or no family contact.
To become a volunteer for the Community Visitors Scheme all volunteers need to attend two information sessions outlining what the Community Visiting Scheme is and what their role as a volunteer will entail. Ongoing support for volunteers is provided by regular volunteer get-togethers throughout the region and a quarterly newsletter.
